Activities are an integral part of life at GBES. Beyond academic excellence at the school, students benefit from a wealth of activities both during school time and at the weekends.
Waznat
Waznat is a leading career guidance institution in Lebanon. It provides career guidance that includes training for students and orientation for both parents and students aiming at a smooth transition to university life. Waznat has been offering sessions for grade 10, 11 and 12 students to help them make well-informed decisions with regards to their future profession, academic major as well as choice of university. Waznat offers both whole class and individual sessions. Some of the topics covered in classroom sessions are personality types, career guidance misconceptions and decision-making skills. Waznat provides a roadmap that guides students as they apply to the major of their interest at the university level. As part of the guidance program, students fill a career assessment test that relates the student’s personality and skills to the profession that fits their profile. Students in grade 12 are provided individual counseling sessions where together with their parents they discuss with a counselor their perspective on the student’s academic and career future. Waznat has also organized career fairs at GBES for the major universities in Lebanon where students and their families had the chance to inquire about the different majors offered and other matters related to university life. We are very appreciative for the ongoing efforts of Waznat with GBES students.
Sports
Sport has literally changed my life. I’m here because of sport… It has given me a lot of confidence, a lot of courage, and a lot of discipline.
SERENA WILLIAMS
As GBES provides nourishment for the mind, it also provides sustenance for the body and soul through sports. Students look forward to sports lessons and after school trainings that are tailored to the different needs of the different age groups. Our teams play football and basketball against other school teams. Competitions in marathons and other sports events have provided our students further opportunities to develop their love of sports.
The sports day event that our school community looks forward to enriches our students’ sportsmanship and team spirit and gives them the opportunity to manifest their skills. Parents’ attendance and participation makes this day even more special and competitive.
Spring Day
Spring day, one of the highlights of our year, is a very special and entertaining yearly event.
Dances, sketches, musical partitions, and musical instruments join in creating a very artistic and enjoyable program where students exhibit their gifts and talents. It is always gratifying to end a year of hard work with performances that appeal to the old and the young.
Theatrical Productions
GBES treasures the artistic talents of its students and aims at developing them. Since XX, our students have performed with great success in many plays and musicals produced by GBES. This includes ‘Aladdin, Romeo and Juliette, The Lion King, The Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, West Side Story, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Mathilda.’
The school is very grateful for the efforts of its alum Director Elie Semaan who gave selflessly over the years and trained the students in a very caring and nurturing manner, allowing them to develop their abilities and talents and be part of a very professional theatrical production.
SocioMag
SocioMag, a magazine that our grade 11 students publish, has been a venue for research, expression, and creative writing. Students were responsible for all the aspects related to publishing from writing the articles to designing the layout. Fields investigated include economics, medicine, nutrition, social and environmental issues. Coaching and guidance coupled with creativity and hard work result in an informative and impressive annual magazine.
Independence Day
At GBES we cherish the sacrifice of the Lebanese patriots who fought and gave their lives to make Lebanon an independent state. Despite the hard times the country is facing, we strive to foster in our students a sense of patriotism, respect, and devotion for the country. We make sure to commemorate this event through performing plays or skits, traditional speeches, national songs, and dances. As we continue to pray for our country, we celebrate this day with joy and hope.
Leadership Workshop at Haigazian University
In collaboration with Waznat, Haigazian University has been organizing a leadership training program. In 2021, the training revolved around the theme of getting ready for real life challenges. In 2022, ‘Getting ready to serve’ was the topic that was covered in 4 sessions. Our students appreciated the opportunity to take part in these workshops.
Cenacle de la Lumiere
Cenacle de la Lumiere is a non-profit organization that works in the field of development and prevention for youth and society. They offer an awareness program that includes mental health awareness, risky behaviors prevention, resilience and life skills building and health insights. They have been leading regular sessions with our grade 1 to 12 students. Some of the topics covered are expressing emotions and coping with anger and fear, discovering strengths and qualities and increasing confidence, understanding other people’s feelings, stress management, goal setting, and understanding addiction.
We are very thankful for CDLL’s faithful partnership with GBES across the years. We look forward for further collaboration.
Art Fair
EINSTEIN
GBES students learn about the life of artists and their work during art lessons. They also learn different techniques, such as how to use acrylic paint, oil pastels and crayons. Other methods including cutting, pasting, tracing and shaping are introduced at different levels. The culmination of this learning is displayed at an annual art fair where a theme is chosen, and student artwork is exhibited highlighting creative ideas and skills.
Christmas at GBES “Tis the season to be jolly”
“For us a child is born, to us a Son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6).
We, at GBES make it a point to enjoy every moment of the festive season through fun and entertainment without forgetting the true meaning of Christmas: The birth of Jesus Christ. His birth is a gift of God to mankind.
Celebrating Christmas at GBES entails plays and musical performances by junior school students. Preparations, rehearsals and performances contribute towards the all-rounded education that we strive for.
Bake Sale
Every year, grade 12 students hold bake sales to gather money for prom. All our students and staff show great support. The school turns into one big fun and yummy carnival around three times a year.
Science Fair
GBES has been organizing science fairs on its grounds for students in the elementary, middle and secondary school. Students have enjoyed preparing, setting up and presenting their projects to their peers, teachers, parents, and friends.
GBES has also participated over the years in the AUB and LAU fairs. All these opportunities allow students to learn and demonstrate important scientific concepts and skills in the fields of physics, chemistry, biology and more.
Mother’s Day
A mother’s arms are made of tenderness and children sleep soundly in them.
VICTOR HUGO
Our mothers are an embodiment of pure sacrificial love. At GBES, we celebrate them with gratitude and thank God for His richest blessings. Mothers of our kindergarten students dance, play games and eat cake with their beloved children to celebrate this special day. At the end of this celebration, students offer the gifts they have prepared for their mothers during art time. It is a day to remember!
